Sūrah Aṣ-ṢāffātThose Lined Up in Ranks · Makkah · 182 āyāt · 4 movements

Revealed 56th. A surah of ranks and order: angels in rows, prophets in sequence, and the closing declaration that peace is upon the messengers. Its heart is the story of Ibrāhīm and his son — the dream, the consent, the knife, the ransom — placed among a chain of saved prophets to teach the Makkan believers that obedience under pressure is always answered with relief.

Occasion & setting

Quraysh were claiming kinship between Allah and the jinn and calling the angels daughters of Allah. The Prophet ﷺ and his few followers were enduring years of pressure without visible relief.
